Food has always been a big part of fashion stylist Jhelo Cristobal’s life.
Growing up in a household where cooking wasn’t just about putting meals on the table but delicious profession of love, he has amassed a trove of memories gathered around food, ranging from simply helping in the kitchen to sharing a meal with the whole family.
He attributes his grandmother to be largely responsible for his affinity with food since she made sure that their family was always well-fed and cared for. And travel too as every destination he had been to introduced him to something new, from comforting local favorites to unique delicacies and dishes he had never imagined trying. “I realized that every meal tells a story about a place and the people behind it, and that’s what made me want to start sharing my own food adventures.”
His experience working in production for one of the biggest broadcasting companies in the country also contributed to his culinary interest as he had the opportunity to work on several cooking shows, and being surrounded by talented chefs who made incredible dishes. “This encouraged me to become more adventurous and curious about food,” he says.
How Content Creator Cristobal Turns Restaurant Visits Into Cinematic Food Stories
Cristobal currently keeps a day job, one that’s connected to content creation. Still, he makes sure to carve enough time to come up with worthy posts for his personal platform. “When I restarted creating content about two and a half years ago, it honestly felt like I was beginning from scratch. In many ways, I had to rebuild everything. But I also wasn’t chasing numbers or trying to impress anyone. I simply wanted a creative outlet where I could share the places I discovered, the meals I enjoyed, and the stories behind them and I guess to have a justification to all the trips I booked.
The turning point came when he realized that people weren’t just watching his content—they were connecting with it. “They would message me after visiting a restaurant I featured, tell me they celebrated a special occasion because of a recommendation, or say they finally tried a cuisine they had been curious about. Those moments reminded me that this was never really about giving reviews. It was about sharing experiences and helping people create their own memories around food.”
The way he approaches his online storytelling is very cinematic, which shows how much effort he puts in producing a single one. But all that work is paying off as proven by invitations from different brands and over 90,000 solid followers.
“I focus on the entire experience. I want people to feel what it’s like to walk into a restaurant, see the dishes arrive at the table, hear the atmosphere, and hopefully imagine themselves being there. It’s less about simply showing food and more about capturing the feeling that comes with it.”
He adds, “If I can make someone pause while scrolling and think, ‘I want to be there,’ then I feel like I’ve done my job.”
Why Pizza Is the Ultimate Comfort Food for Every Occasion
I think Pizza has always been one of the most comforting and accessible meals for me. It’s one of those dishes that somehow works no matter the occasion. Whether it’s fresh out of a wood-fired oven, New York-style by the slice, deep into a movie night, or even cold straight from the fridge the next morning, pizza just never disappoints.
I also love how versatile it is. You can have it the traditional Italian way, go for something more indulgent and loaded, or even try creative fusion flavors. And yes, whether it has pineapple or not, I’m happy to enjoy it. I think that’s part of what makes pizza so special. There’s really a version for everyone.
For me, what makes a good pizza depends on the mood I’m in. Some days I’m craving something simple like a classic Margherita, while other days I want something packed with bold flavors and toppings. But no matter the style, I always look for a great crust and that CHEESE PULL.
Maybe that’s why I never get tired of it. I genuinely appreciate every kind of pizza, from the most traditional recipes to the most unexpected combinations. At the end of the day, pizza is just my kind of food.
Five of His Most Favorite Pizza Spots (in random order):
1. A Mano – “A Mano is one of those places where you can tell they really care about every pizza that comes out of the oven. From the dough to the toppings, everything feels well thought out, and you can taste that attention to detail in every bite. If you want to understand why people love Italian-style pizza, this is one of the best places to try it. They let the ingredients do the talking instead of piling on too much, and somehow every flavor just works together. And if there’s one thing you shouldn’t skip, it’s their hot honey.”
What to order: Stracciatella Pizza, Diavola (Spicy Carnivore Pizza), Carbonara Pizza
2. Cutie Pie Pizza – Cutie Pie has a charm that’s hard to explain until you’ve been there. It’s cozy, laid-back, and just feels like a place you’d want to hang out in. Their pizzas aren’t loaded with a million toppings, but each one has a little twist that makes you remember it. It’s familiar enough to be comforting, but different enough to keep you coming back. That Anchovy though!
What to order: Bon ‘Chovy, Recto-Roni
3. Crosta Pizzeria – Crosta is the kind of place I recommend when someone asks, “Where can I get really good pizza?” No fancy gimmicks, just seriously good pizza. They focus on getting the dough, sauce, and toppings right, and honestly, that’s all they need. The vibe is casual, the food comes out consistently good, and it’s the type of place where you can just sit down, eat, and leave happy.
What to order: Roni Sicilian, Drunken Bismarck, Detroit Thick Spinach Overload
4. Half Saints – Whenever I’m craving something a little different, I usually think of Half Saints. Their puff pastry crust is flaky, and super satisfying if you’re into crispy textures. The toppings can be a little unexpected too, but they just work. I also like that they use a lot of local ingredients, so even though the flavors are unique, everything still feels familiar and comforting. It’s a fun place to go when you want pizza that doesn’t taste like every other pizza.
What to order: Shiitake Goat Cheese Puff Pizza, Hummus Puff Pizza
5. Tripod’s Pizza – Tripod’s feels like one of those hidden gems that you almost don’t want to tell too many people about. Their dough is fermented for 36 hours, and you can actually taste the difference. The crust has so much flavor on its own, and once you add the sauce and toppings, everything just comes together really well. If you’re someone who believes the crust can make or break a pizza, you’ll probably enjoy this place as much as I do.
What to order: Dear Steven, Tercet (Detroit Style or Regular), Margherita “Attarub”
