In BF Homes, a longtime favorite proves some places are better stayed in than rushed through.

This BF Homes Parañaque taco shop was designed as a Mexican eat-and-run, grab-and-go concept for a quick turnover, but guests have embraced the space, choosing to linger longer than expected.

With an unassuming name like Drive-By Taco Shop, this small, authentic Mexican restaurant sounds like the kind of place you pass through without much thought—something quick, convenient, and run-of-the-mill. But I’ve been coming here since high school, and if there’s anything consistent about it, it’s that nobody really just “drives by.”

A Comforting Classic

Even back then, it was an easy choice. My friends and I would end up here all the time, still in our bright blue science high school uniforms—usually a little broke and fresh from our regular three-hour internet cafe sessions. It was the kind of place you didn’t have to think about. You just showed up, ordered a couple of tacos, and stayed longer than you meant to.

Years later, it still feels the same.

We came back recently telling ourselves that we’d keep things simple and light—just enough to revisit the taste of nostalgia. That wasn’t the case. We ended up ordering a full spread: White Adobo Style Pulled Pork Butt tacos, Extra Spicy Pulled Beef tacos, a Chicharones taco, a Beef Sirloin Steak taco, and their cheesy beef nachos on the side. It sounds excessive, but also oddly appropriate given that we haven’t been here in years. After all, this has never really been the kind of place where you stop after just one or two bites.

And stopping after two bites is a herculean task when the Chicharones taco is the one you order. Served on a soft shell, it somehow holds together all that crunch and richness in one bite. It comes in loud—crispy, crunchy, and hard to ignore—using fried pork belly instead of the usual melts-in-your-mouth beef. That’s obvious from the second you bite in as the chicharon crackles and breaks apart, giving way to a rich, slightly melty layer underneath. It’s messy, a little heavy, and completely worth it. This is the taco that sticks with you.

White Adobo Style Pulled Pork Butt Taco

The White Adobo Style Pulled Pork Butt taco follows with something more familiar. The meat is slow-cooked in pork fat with orange juice and white vinegar, giving it a savory, slightly tangy flavor that pays homage to the Filipino-favorite adobo. It’s tender, juicy, and well-seasoned, but lighter than you’d expect. It’s a twist on something you’ve always loved—familiar, but just different enough to stay interesting.

The Extra Spicy Pulled Beef taco brings a welcome amount of heat. The beef brisket is cooked in tomato sauce and chilies, giving it a deep, rich base with just the right amount of spice. You feel it right away but it doesn’t overwhelm, settling into a steady warmth that still lets the flavor of the beef come through. It’s bold and a little intense, but you can’t help but go back for another bite.

Beef Sirloin Steak Taco

The Beef Sirloin Steak taco rounds things out. Its straightforward, well-seared, slightly charred chunks of beef sirloin add depth without complicating things. It doesn’t try to compete for attention, but it holds its own—simple, solid, and satisfying.

On the side, their colorful beef nachos arrive fully loaded—chips layered with a creamy homemade cheese sauce, Cubano-style ground beef, cilantro, and jalapeños. There’s no attempt to keep things neat or carefully portioned. It’s generous, messy, and clearly meant to be shared with good company. 

More Than Just a Drive-By

That’s really where Drive-By Taco Shop shines. It’s not just about the food on the table, but how easily it fits into life’s different moments—quick stops that turn into long conversations, unplanned hangouts that stretch well into the evening, or even just familiar routines you find yourself returning to without much thought. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t ask for much, but somehow ends up providing more than just a delicious meal.

And the name, while slightly misleading, starts to make more sense the longer you sit with it.

Because yes, you could just drive by and treat it like a quick stop. You could come in, eat, and leave. But that’s rarely how it plays out—you stay a little longer, you eat more tacos than you planned, and you finish a plate of nachos even when you probably shouldn’t. The experience at Drive-By Taco Shop always stretches, not because it demands your attention, but because of food that’s reliably good, a space that feels easy to return to, and an experience that doesn’t feel like it needs to end quickly.

For a place with ‘Drive-By’ in the name, it has a way of making you stay.
